UPDATED: Glenn Beck's Current Advertisers: Extenze and the "Egg Genie"

By Jim Edwards | Aug 20, 2009

The advertiser boycott of Glenn Beck’s Fox News Channel show over his claim that President Obama is a “racist” with “a deep-seeded hatred for white people” has reduced Beck’s ad roster to penis pill sellers and kitchen gadget direct-response slots.

Gawker’s John Cook sat through Beck’s show and on Wednesday produced this list of advertisers remaining on Beck:

  • Extenze penis-enhancing pills
  • Inogen One portable oxygen concentrator
  • Brez anti-snoring nose inserts* (See update below.)
  • Egg Genie and Baconwave egg cooker / bacon microwave rack
  • The Jewelry Exchange
  • SmartForLife cookies
  • The Mesothelioma Hotline (lawyers)
  • Jupiter Jack
  • Rosetta Stone
  • Speed Channel (a News Corp. property)
  • Oreck Vacuums
  • FreeScore.com

Note that Speed Channel, like Fox, is a News Corp. property, and is therefore a house ad. BNET first noted the appearance of house ads on Beck (specifically the Wall Street Journal) on Aug. 18. House ads usually don’t carry revenue.

Cook adds:

There were 13 paid spots totaling 15 minutes … Ironically, Beck is enjoying his best ratings since he joined Fox—last week he averaged 2.5 million viewers and was the second-highest-rated program in all of cable in his timeslot.

Here’s the updated list of major brands who have stopped advertising on Beck, and those which have not:

Stopped: Farmers Insurance, WalMart, GMAC Financial Services (Ally Bank), Best Buy, CVS, Travelocity, Allergan, Broadview Security, ConAgra, Roche, Sanofi-Aventis, RadioShack, Geico, Men’s Wearhouse, State Farm, Sargento, LexisNexis, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance and S.C. Johnson.

Remaining: Honda, General Electric, Office Depot, Nestlé (Gerber), Red Lobster, the U.S. Postal Service, and Wyeth.

*Brez has since removed itself from the show. The company told BNET:

We instructed our advertising agency earlier this week to insure that no further commercials for Brez are run on the Glenn Beck show. Owing to the way TV advertising is purchased, AirWare Inc. was not aware in advance that its spots were to run on the show.

I wait until supporting evidence is provided on a subject rather than be told what to think by a group that believes their viewpoint is the only legitimate option. If a black calls a white racist, that seems to be tolerated. If a white plays the same card the result is moral outrage. Why is that? Racist is a harsh label but if the behavior is supported by facts it doesn't matter if the charge comes from the left or right, a duck is a duck if it quacks. Wait to see if any facts support Becks claim before you jump to self rightous action.

There will be moral outrage when the person yelling "racist" is on the news, and presenting his "opinions" as news. It's even more outrageous because the man he called racist is the President of the United States, who happens to be black.

I would like to know what kind of "facts" or "evidence" you seem to be waiting for to prove that Obama hates white people. I suspect that you think he hates them because he's trying to help 46 million white people get health insurance and lower the costs of health care for the other millions of white people across the country. Or maybe it's because he just cut taxes for millions of white American workers? Or maybe it's because Obama gave billions to white-owned companies (TARP) and then gave billions more to white-run states and municipalities (stimulus)?

Surely, this must mean that he hates white people, right? Why else would he give them stuff? LOL

What evidence are you waiting for? If he said the president is racist, he has to provide the evidence of his claim right about when he makes the comment, no? Why wait for future evidence. If I say you are racist it has to be based on something you did or said in the past, not things that you might do or say in the future. So keep waiting for evidence if you want but please don't hold your breath.

I understand Mr. Beck and expressing his views. I just
disapprove of his rants and his manner of implying certain
things. The problem isn't Beck its that we the people have
allowed this behavior with major networks. The networks look at
the dollar and as long as Beck brings in that money no one
cares. I think its up to the people to say enough is enough of
this behavior. Whatever happened to real reporting. When I was
growing up the news was a no nonsense straight forward
approach with no analytical bull. Ok take Beck off the air and
maybe just maybe we can teach others that this is not
acceptable behavior. I so appreciate that the sponsors are
pulling out ...now maybe FOX will get the hint.

Boycotting can work two ways. I came online to order two boxes of Brez, one for my husband and one for me. However, since I've now learned your company doesn't think Glenn Beck is entitled to his own opinion about President Obama, I prefer not to support a company with such a narrow mind.
Btw, if you don't think President Obama dislikes white people you need to see the Glenn Beck show regularly.
