GSD&M Intern Worries About Agency's Nail Polish Policy

By Jim Edwards | Feb 3, 2009

What’s on the minds of young agency trainees at GSD&M Idea City? Whether their nail polish choices might be considered too radical for the Austin, Tx., agency — at least according to this blog, kept by a current GSD&M intern.

It’s a big issue for

I have an internship at GSD&M Idea City currently, and I have been wondering if I need to remove the nail polish and put on a more conservative color. GSD&M Idea City has a very chill vibe though. I even saw a media planner with black nail polish on the other day. I am just going to take a chance and see what happens.

A media planner!

Anyway, Burkly will be pleased to learn that GSD&M does not have a policy on nail polish. “Certainly not,” said spokesperson John McGrath. “We are, after all, an ad agency.” When Burkly’s post came on his radar, he added, “we were amused by it.”

This might be in part because of Burkly’s explanation of the effect of black nails on her work rate:

I actually feel different when my nails and painted. Writing and typing are both more fun. The act of eating is different. Pushing the cross walk button feels different. With  my nails painted black, I feel hard core. I channel my inner rock star.

A rock star who thinks typing is fun. Interns!
