The Australian newspaper The Age reports that the U.S company PCI gave NewSat a contract to provide communications between military units and support contractors in Afghanistan with bases in the U.S. To add to the international flare NewSat will use satellites operated by SES New Skies, a Dutch company. Just as satellites have revolutionized all media and communication across the world over the last thirty years the U.S. military has come to rely on them more-and-more for their links. This contract also illustrates how the U.S. government can sign a contract with one entity, PCI, and allow them to choose the best method to meet the requirements of the contract.
