Hawaiian's Mainland Flights Have a Rough November

By Brett Snyder | Jan 21, 2009

Earlier today, we talked about Delta’s on-time problems in November, but there was another airline that had problems in the month, despite what the results say at first glance. That airline was Hawaiian.

At first glance, Hawaiian looks great. It was number one among all reporting airlines with 89.6 percent of flights arriving on time. But Hawaiian is usually in the 90 percent range, so I decided to look a little deeper to see why they’d fallen. It appears that their mainland operation had some serious problems.

Interisland flights operated with stellar on-time performance, but if we isolate the west coast airports, Hawaiian didn’t even beat 60 percent on time. Some cities were far worse. Phoenix’s daily flight from Honolulu arrived on-time only 30 percent of the time. There weren’t many weather problems in November, so it must have been something else.

We’ll want to watch Hawaiian’s widebody operation closely over the next couple months to see if things improve.

  • Hawaiian Finally Showing Improvement in Mainland On Time Performance

BNET Travel - 165 days 23 hours 34 minutes ago

It sure took them awhile, but Hawaiian finally had a decent operating month for its mainland flights in April. On-time performance was respectable for the first time in a long time. Let’s hope this actually is a trend and not just luck. When I last wrote about this problem, Hawaiian had just posted a January on-time percentage of 52.8 percent...

  • Delta On-Time Performance Lags in November

BNET Travel - 306 days 20 hours 48 minutes ago

The November on-time report is out, and instead of repeating the stats that you've seen posted elsewhere (including the Air Travel Consumer Report itself), I thought I'd look at some of the outliers. This month, that means Delta. Once again, November was a great month for on-time performance. Just wait until the December report comes out -...

  • Kudos To Hawaiian Advertiser Reporter Rick Daysog; Sale of Aloha Name Thrown Out

    PlaneBuzz - 263 days 16 hours 9 minutes ago

A shout out to Hawaiian Advertiser reporter Rick Daysog today. Because of Rick, the "behind closed doors" bankruptcy agreement that saw Yucaipa Companies be granted the intellectual property rights to Aloha Airlines, including the airline's name, was thrown out by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Lloyd King this week. You may recall that we...
